Hi all my fabulous vegans, veggies and veg-curious readers in cyberspace. Welcome to Vegan Va Va Voom! A blog where I explore all things vegan and yummy. I will be posting my recipe successes and almost inevitable failures on this blog along with some gorgeous photos of my latest kitchen escapades. A little about me I have been a fully fledged vegan for almost 16 years now after initially being a vegetarian from the age of 9 and then in my early twenties discovering all the stomach problems I had endured whilst growing up, were due to a lactose intolerance. Which promptly disappeared once I removed cow juice (milk) and solidified cow juice (cheese) from my diet and became fully vegan.
I love to sample foods from all over the world, anything as long as its 100% veggie in origin, but I must admit that I'm a sucker when it comes to dessert. In fact I have chosen to dine in certain vegan restaurants based on the dessert menu alone.
I think my dessert fetish stems from the fact that when I dine out with my non vegan friends in non vegan restaurants having whatever doesn't contain animal products (chips/french fries or rice with salad 0_0) I basically salivate profusely as they have their pick of an abundance of (admittedly gorgeous looking) dairy and egg filled desserts. Cream cakes, profiteroles, ice cream, cheesecake, chocolate mousses, banoffee pies...... sorry getting a bit carried away there!! But yes I would be consumed with a silent envy and rage at the fact that I could never have dessert or was offered fruit!!! From these experiences my dessert fetish was born. So I warn you from now, this blog will more than likely contain more desserts than main meals!!
I do eat healthy, lots of alkaline foods, grains, pulses and raw stuff but hey at the same time I'm not a food snob or food Nazi, I don't cast judgements on omni/carnivores because I'm surrounded by them and they might eat me lol. In my experience non veggies have preconceived opinions on veggie foods and these opinions change once they start eating my food, the most common comment I get is that they too would become vegans if they had me to cook for them everyday!!
Not everything I eat is zero fat, macrobiotically balanced blah blah blah as I like to enjoy my food just because it tastes nice and not necessarily because it's super healthy. I admit it I'm a bad vegan at times and I do on occasion give in to my cravings, but hey everything in moderation right? I mean if you drink too much water that can kill you too!!
